Is Rainbows COVID-19 secure? What has changed?

Rainbows has worked hard to create a safe environment for all staff and customers. We have reduced seats and provided friendly but protective acrylic table screens for seated customers. All seats are back to back and all customers will be sat 1 metre apart. Acrylic screens have been introduced at the counter and a sanitizer station at the door for all customers to use upon entry. We have removed aprons and some of the materials to eliminate cross contamination. We have also removed the coat hooks so please bring limited items as they will need to be kept with you. We have also needed to implement a 2 hour painting limit and during busy times non painters may be limited to 1 max. We encourage everyone to paint if possible. Whilst masks are currently not mandatory we do encourage their use. Additional cleaning measures have been put in place and all tables, chairs and paints will be disinfected after use.

Do I need to book?

There is no need to book, we will continue to welcome walk ins as we always have. If we happen to be busy we will take a mobile number and give you a call when a table is free.

What can I expect when I get to the door?

When you arrive at Rainbows please be patient and wait at the entrance in a socially distanced queue. You will be welcomed by a member of staff who will direct you to a table. All tables will contain a QR code where you can browse the items at your table during busy times. Also please look at our Shop prior to your visit to again reduce browsing times. Please browse the items without touching and if you have children with you we kindly ask that you ensure they ‘look with their eyes and not their hands!’.

How much does it cost?

The cost depends on the item you choose to paint. Prices for both sitting in and take away start at £10.00. We no longer have a studio fee, the price you see is the price you pay.

How long does it take?

Due to COVID-19 we have needed to implement a 2hr time limit for painting during busy times. This may change as guidelines are relaxed.

What if I don’t finish my piece?

You are welcome to take your item home to finish at a cost of £5.00 to cover additional paint.

When will my item be ready?

It usually takes around a week to glaze and fire your pieces however at the moment we are on a 2 week turnaround until we are fully staffed. If you are in a rush then please ask and we will always try to turn your item around earlier.

Are you accepting party bookings?

Currently government rules dictate a max of 6 people from 2 households. We can therefore accommodate a group of 6 or less around our party table. More that 6+ painters will need to book in on a evening or a day we are closed, where you can have the studio to yourselves to allow for social distancing.

Can I Paint at Home?

Absolutely! We have always provided a Take Away Paint Party kit but now we have the extra option of Pottery Painting at Home for everyone whether you are wanting to paint by yourself or with a group. Please see our Party packages or our Shop for more info. We introduced a Pottery Painting at Home option during lockdown and it has proved popular so we shall certainly be keeping this. Prices are the same for sitting in and taking away and you have the bonus of a whole week to paint!

Do you sell drinks and snacks?

Yes, we offer an excellent range of hot and cold drinks plus a small selection of snacks.

Do you accept card payment?

Card only please, unless you have the exact money.

How do I find you?

We are really easy to find, just a 2 minute walk from York Minster. There is also Bootham Row pay and display car park behind the studio. Please click here for a map and directions.
